Where I Belong

Where I Belong by Cory Asbury
Your presence is all I'm longing for here in the secret place.
Your nearness is all I'm waiting for here in the quiet place.
Here, in the secret place.

My soul waits for you alone,
Just like the watchmen wait for dawn.
Here, I've finally found the place,
Where we'll meet, Lord, face to face.

I’ve finally found where I belong.
I've finally found where I belong, in your presence.
I've finally found where I belong, Lord,
Just to be with you, to be with you.

I am my Beloved's, and He is mine.
So come into your garden, and take delight in me.
Take delight in me.
Delight in me.

Here in Your presence, God, I find my rest.

A verse that continues to speak to my heart in this season of life:

'Be still and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’

The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

Psalm 46:10-11

Mannheim Steamroller - The Sign Of Love Lyrics

If I only knew the way
To say the things you are
In my life, in my heart
The sign of love

If I only knew the words
To tell you how I feel
About you by my side
The sign of love

If I could only touch your heart
If you would only take my hand
If we could only find a little more time
If we could only understand
If we could only find a little more time
For love

{Instrumental Bridge:}

If you helped me find a way
To say the things you are
To say the things you are
In my life, in my heart
The sign of love

If you helped me find a way
I know this love will stay
For a lifetime or more
The sign of love

If I could only touch your heart
If you would only take my hand
If we could only find a little more time
If we could only understand
If we could only find a little more time
For love

final words today as I lay my father to rest....

final words today as I lay my father to rest....

by Dev-Sheila Sookram on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 5:45am

Family, Friends, Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Thank you all for for your support and condolences.

Before we go our separate ways and get busy with the business of life and where to go from here, I would like to say a few words…. I regret that I was unable to share my gift of vocal music today for many reasons, but being my father’s daughter, I still felt the urge to speak and share with you what is on my heart. To bring to you a message, and as Don shared with me recently, when the Holy Spirit is speaking, we have no other choice but to yield and listen with an open heart and soul.

Over the last few days I have found great comfort in all of the shared stories and memories. My earthly father had so many talents and gifts and I am so thankful for all of the lives he touched as he pursued with great vigor his God given passions and strengths. He was also very passionate about encouraging others to discover and develop their individual talents and gifts as well. I am also very grateful to him for that. And like any tragedy, I believe God uses it for the good to teach, strengthen and continues to mold us even in times of great sorrow.

Some of the greatest lessons I can learn from my father’s life now is that everyone has strengths but they also have weaknesses. And that is ok, it makes us human… it forces us to look up to the heavens for guidance. Showing each other our authentic selves, our emotions and vulnerability does not make us weak but instead strengthens our relationships drawing us closer to each other and to God.

2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us… " For my grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness.".

I also learned (and am still learning) that you cannot be all things to all people. It is important to serve but also to allow others to serve and help you in times of great need as well. To forgive, but to also accept forgiveness from others as well. Life is a journey and our core human needs for fulfillment in life can be sent and received very differently from person to person based on our own unique personalities. I am very proud of the level of respect and admiration that my father was able to receive through his interactions with others and through his continued service to the Lord.

Because music is one of my gifts and also a great way to share a message… I have some lyrics from a compilation of songs to share that I pray will bring comfort and wisdom at a time like this. There is a very universal message of love, service to one another, and peace in these various songs that transcends any one theology or religion. I believe this is what unites us all, lutheran, catholic or otherwise .... from bible verses to ballads sharing our raw authentic lives in both strong and weak moments tells a powerful story… I hope you enjoy.

His Eye is on the sparrow ..

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,

And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;

Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,

When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,

I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

How You live- Turn up the Music

Wake up to the sunlight With your windows open

Don't hold in your anger or leave things unspoken

Wear your red dress Use your good dishes

Make a big mess and make lots of wishes

Have what you want But want what you have

And don't spend your life lookin' back

So go to the ballgames And go to the ballet

And go see your folks more than just on the holidays

Kiss all your children Dance with your wife

Tell your husband you love him every night

Don't run from the truth 'Cause you can't get away

Just face it and you'll be okay

Turn up the music Turn it up loud

Take a few chances Let it all out

You won't regret it Lookin' back from where you have been

'Cause it's not who you knew And it's not what you did

It's how you live

wherever you are and wherever you've been

Now is the time to begin

So give to the needy And pray for the grieving

Even when you don't think that you can

'Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you

So think of your fellow man

Make peace with God and make peace with yourself

'Cause in the end there's nobody else

it's not who you knew And it's not what you did

It's how you live

Do It Anyway-

You can spend your whole life buildin' Something from nothin

One storm can come and blow it all away

Build it anyway

You can chase a dream That seems so out of reach

And you know it might not ever come your way

Dream it anyway

Sometimes the world seem crazy And it's hard to believe

That tomorrow will be better than today

Believe it anyway

You can love someone with all YOUR heart For all the right reasons

And in a moment they can choose to walk away

love em anyway

God is great but sometimes life aint good

And when I pray It doesn't always turn out like I think it should

But I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singin' A song that you believe in

That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang

Sing it anyway

I sing I dream I love and I do it anyway

This next exerpt is from a song called "Nature Boy"

And then one day one magic day he passed my way

And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings

This he said to me

"The greatest thing

You'll ever learn

Is just to love

And be loved

In return"

With any good message, there is always a moral or lesson to be learned. Wiether it is through a song or the scriptures…

For those of you who have seen the Movie Grace Card, you know the simple message of extending Grace can heal all wounds. The promise to pray for each other everyday and ask each others forgivenenss, grant the same to each other in return and hold relationships with each other in the highest regard… always. " For my grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness.".

I know my father knows there is still work to be done, we must stand united for there is also a real battle ever at hand, there is always forgiveness, grace covers all and we must guard our hearts and minds so that our greatest strengths do not become areas of great weakness. So go out and love like you’ve never loved before, don’t be disappointed if others do not love you back the way to expect to be loved, pursue your passions and talents, and just do it anyway.

The letter

She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out

> > > Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you.
> > > To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool?

True Beauty

In Sunday bible study we have been discussing how pretty some outfits make us feel.  As I reflected on this and what is beauty... I internalized it to the beauty I feel, hear and see when I sing/listen to a lovely song.  True artistic beauty that transends time and place.  Take a listen and close your eyes.   To many Roberta Flack would not fit today's description of super model beauty... I think she is perhaps the most beautiful lady I have ever experienced as I can feel the beauty of her heart and soul poured into this song.... enjoy... Sheila

Thoughts and Quotes

"Life is too short to be anything but happy. Love deeply, forgive quickly, take chances, give everything with no regrets and forget the past with exception of what you have learned and remember that everything happens for a reason."
~Unknown

Each person should judge his own actions and not compare himself with others. Then he can be proud for what he himself has done.

One Flaw in Woman

God doesn't give you the people you want; He gives you the people you NEED... to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you and to make you into the person you were meant to be.

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men....

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in..

They stand up to injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer

when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

yet they are strong when they

think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what

makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

and everything to give..

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,

IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.
Please pass this along to all your women friends and relatives to remind them just how amazing they are.

Today's thoughts and reflections....

"Each new day is an important day to me.   I choose to see each day as a chance to live up to my best, work at reaching my goals, get things done, and move forward in my life.  And at the end of each day, I get to turn the page to a bright new tomorrow."  Shad Hehnstetter

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

Reflections and thoughts...

Many say life is a choice and it really is.   There are always those who have more or less and if we spend our life in fear, anxiety and worry about if we are a have or have not... we are really wasting precious time.   To go against what the "world" tells us success is and strive towards an inner peace and contentment is what I pray for today.

great flick to see.... Do you have what it takes to give a Grace Card to someone?

Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal wounds by extending and receiving God's grace. Offer THE GRACE CARD ... and never underestimate the power of God's love.

Zin Room Omaha, NE

Vintage Jazz Vocalist/Soloist

THE NEW ZIN ROOM Downtown Omaha

Restaurants industry
January 2010Present (1 year 7 months)
APPEARING WEEKLY THURSDAYS FROM 6-9 DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS The much anticipated restaurant opening of Zin Room from local Chef Ryan Gish, will be the newest addition to the Omaha downtown dining scene. Gish, an Art Institute of Colorado graduate has constructed a captivating menu of Fusion Americana that spans numerous cuisines from around the world.
Like the Ryan’s Bistro location, the Zin Room maintains a cozy appearance, warm colors, and the active sights and sounds from the exquisite, floor to ceiling fireplace. Lofty ceilings give way to a semi-private mezzanine area for dining, convenient high top tables in the lounge area, and comfortable seating around the fireplace.
“The Zin Room is the perfect downtown version of the Bistro,” said Gish. “We will continue to be a big presence in the Omaha community and this elegant venue enables us to utilize the vast space at the Hotel.” The Zin Room will also feature five private rooms for banquets, receptions, and conferences to suit your needs. All the rooms will be equipped to handle presentations with Wi-Fi and projection screen capabilities for meetings, and classrooms. Each meeting room has been appropriately named after several art deco New York style venues including pre-bookings for the highly anticipated Rockefeller Room, our most exclusive private dining room.
The restaurant is an ideal destination for visitors and residents to catch a show at the theatre or attend any one of the numerous Omaha events. “In planning the space, we wanted residents to have the ability to access the restaurant without interacting with the hotel if they want.”
The Zin Room will open in late May 2011, inside Hotel Deco at 1504 Harney Street in Omaha. The restaurant hours will be from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. and will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the lounge and bar open until 2 a.m. For more information about the Zin Room, contact Ryan Gish at 402-541-7963.
