Pets vs People... from facebook notes post

Pets vs People...

As I sit for a moment today in my feet pjs ( a gag gift from my mom for Christmas), validating that hot, dark chocolate is really a comfort food as well as a mood enhancer; I reflect on last night's TV show about animal horders.....

I reflect on all the broken relationships in many families and organizations due to people just simply not being able to forgive, accept, and love unconditionally. Many times animals, alcohol, possessions and other addictions are an escape from the real pain of reality that we all must face at one point or another. Most people also need to be needed and accepted and animals are the best therapy for that.
I also think of our new cat Jet as well as other pets I have enjoyed loving throughout my lifetime and how, even though they would have accidents and not behave the way I always expected, I still loved them and forgave them because I took it as my responsiblity to teach them since I felt they didn't know any better otherwise. I can't tell you how many times as a child I ran away from home to hide in our grove of evergreen trees on the east side of our country home with my pet and my guitar to have a good cry... that is until my little sister would call our dog Sandy and she would go to her and lead her right back to me. My pets always loved me back no matter my faults, mistakes, and shortcomings and that felt so good.

So why can't we (I) have that same attitude toward the humans relationships in our lives? God looks at us like helpless, blameless children so why can't we look at each other that way? Neither people or pets are the real enemy right? We know who the real enemy is and we simply must acknowledge that more frequently in our daily living to salvage the relationships that are most important to us and to God right?
